Quick question about installing external hard drive

Macbook 2.4GHz, 160GB, 2GB,SD / Iphone 3Gs 16GB
I hope this isn't a stupid question But I have a Macbook 1.83 1GB RAM 80 GB Hard Drive. I also have a 250 GB External Hard Drive that I was using to backup my data.

Now my question is; is it possible to remove the 250GB hard drive from my external and install it into my Macbook?

depends, but most likely the external may be an ata drive, and also it will most likely be a 3.5" drive, where as your MacBook will use a 2.5" drive
