• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I have an Powerbook G4 PPC and am having trouble playing backup DVDs on it.. it plays brand new DVDs easy.. but doesn't recognized backup DVDs..

When I put the backup DVD in it reads, nothing loads on the screen..then it spits the DVD back out..

What can I do to be able to play backup DVDs on it?

I did a search and I have found ppl asking similar questions as I am..and the common responses where to do searches here on the forum for solution.. instead of that type of response can somebody simply provide the answer plz

Backup of a video? Could be the DVD drive in the Powerbook is getting old and cant read the burnt media but works with stamped factory media. What model Powerbook G4 is it? CPU speed and basic specs would help. Some older DVD drives that I have ran into had issues with burnt DVD's .

BTW, this is the first time I saw your thread or I would have answered sooner. Lots of posts here to go through. Also others might not know what to say as it's a iffy issue. How many burned DVD's have you tried?

dtravis7: would the AppleCare disk diagnose an old drive?
