Have always wanted one of these as i think they are amazing hard drives.
Found a 120GB on ebay and have removed the old 4200rpm. ANy tips for doing a complete install on a Power PC G4?

I have cleaned the fan out etc (was amazed at how much dust had formed on the blades and PCB etc !And fitted new feet to raise it off the desk a fraction to aid cooling

cheers

Have you got an external drive to back-up the old drive with?

What's the deal here...are we talking about working on a Mac Mini or Powermac G4?

One topic at a time would be helpful.:|

And what do you mean by a "complete install"?

Thanks,

my mac mini is the old g4 type. (Power PC)

as my old drive just packed up i never got the chance to back up the entire system. But i have all my word / work files and my pics etc . these are on a 16 gb USB stick

so i have to do a fresh install from the mini discs etc

Ok...I get where you are coming from. Terminology-wise...most folks just say "I have a G4 Mac-mini".

So I'm still not sure what you mean by your question, "Any tips for doing a complete install on a Power PC G4?".

What do you mean by a "complete install"?

Step 1: Install the OS.
Step 2: Install the applications you use.
Step 3: Copy your old files onto the new HD.

Beyond that...I'm not really sure what you're asking.

will step one include all the drivers etc ?

Imagine a fully cleaned hard drive been fitted . Other than my saved safari and office for mac etc i lost the rest on the old hard drive. so i need to get it up to 10.4 11 and then use "superduper " or a USB stick to bring in stuff from my powerbook

Have fitted the drive (Easier than i expected !!) all working and by god its fats and quiet. Ran for hours without any heat issues etc.

I have only used the disc 1 for the OS X that comes with the mini. Then did the upgrades etc.

My question now is how to add PANTHER ? and get it up to 10.4.11?

i have the 3 discs.

thanks

I recommend "Ifixit" great info
