macbook pro 2007 and ipod earphone microphone compatibility

I have a late 2007 17 inch macbook pro. I would like to buy a cheap microphone for the one since my built in one seems to be loosing its sharpness. I noticed that apple has new earphones that have a microphone built in. Will this microphone work with my macbook pro via garageband/other apps?
