Is it possible to install extras into an iMac G5 without apple kicking up a fight, because if you do it with the mini, it voids the warranty. Is it the same story with the iMac G5??
Thanks

I think adding RAM doesn't void the warranty...not sure about optical or HD drives.

Anything that isn't a "customer installable or upgradeable" part (e.g., RAM or an AirPort card) will void the warranty. I'd imagine this is pretty similar to the warranty policies of other manufacturers as well.

according to the CompUSA apple rep "If you open your iMac you void the warranty" he is wrong. Adding RAM does not void the warranty UNLESS you bust something while installing it... there was a link on the apple site that explains more about this.

Your so called Apple Rep is either a liar or an idiot, quite possibly both. You can open and add ram to the iMac and it doesn't void the warranty. Of course if you go try and put in a extra hard drive or video card you could then be up to your neck in gators.

The people at the Apple store saw it is fine to add ram & the airport card to the imac- and they say the directions are there for it when you open the case...if you add foreign ram and it does not work they said they will remove it and hand it back to you when you bring it in- but it is perfectly OK to do so warrenty wise...- BTW, otehr brands costs about 1/2 what apple ram does- (but I went with apple anyway.....)
