This happened a while ago, but I only had time to ask about it today...

I have a

Macbook Pro 17" 2.16

It's an older model.

My macbook CD/DVD stopped working suddenly.. no warning or anything. My Macbook doesn't seem to be aware of it either. The funny thing is that if I put an original CD in it it will work. It just doesn't work when I try to burn a CD or when I try to read a burned CD.

Anyone has any idea how can that be?

You can purchase a CD cleaning kit at most any electronics store.

What I do with mine (not recommended by most real techs) is shut down, pull the battery and power cable, take one of those cans of Dust Remover and stick it in the slot, hit just a quick burst in 2-3 directions. Wait for at least 60 seconds to power back up.

If cleaning doesn't fix it, more than likely it's time for a replacement.
