Hi All, I'm posting this here because i think my HD is in big trouble, please convince me otherwise......

My iMac wont boot.....

- tried the Safe Mode Boot....didnt work

- tried the Single User Mode Boot, with the fsck -fy command at the prompt.....didnt work

- Booted of the CD, Utilities->Disk Utility then did a Repair Disk, this is what i get:

Verify and Repair disk Macintosh HD
Checking HFS Volume
Checking Extents Overflow file
Checking Catalog file
Invalid node structure
Volume check failed.

Error: The underlying task reported a failure on exit

1 HFS volume checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error

Then a message appears:
First Aid failed
Disk Utility stopped repairing "Macintosh HD"
because the following error was encountered:

The underlying task reported a failure on exit

HELP.......BIG TIME!!!! Any ideas anyone????

G'day and welcome to the forums.

Not good news on your hard drive alas. Maybe, just maybe, DiskWarrior 4.1.1 may be the go, but at US$99.00, cheaper to buy a new hard drive. Do a Google for your model iMac, either SATA or IDE drive, and find fitting instructions.

If it is under warranty or Applecare of course, and you have not supplied details, take back to the Apple dealer.

If your data is priceless as you have suggested, then an investment in Dssk Warrior would be well worth it. It can fix most problems.

Also, you should always have a full backup, in case this very thing happens!
