I've been reading up on the Power PC 5200 and I haven't heard one good thing about it. Byzantine system architecture, massive stability issues, slow loading times.

Well, I have to say guys, I am the proud owner of a 5200. What was so wrong with it?! I love my 5200! It looks all neat and gorgeous in its all-in-one case - and it's still going strong now after 14 years, chugging along through a Marathon 2 game!

Obviously I'm not using it to type this message though. If it ever went online it'd probably... explode, or something.

Let's hear some love for the 5200! :D

This thread is probably in the wrong section btw. I didn't see the one for clapped-out old Macs. Sorry in advance!

Ahh the 5200 was an alright machine until the 5400 and 5500 Directors Special were released. The bus speed was the main problem, inadequate memory and HDD size also. At least they were an improvement over the earlier Performas.

Here down under they were released as the Performa 5200 All in One, as were the later 5200 versions, 5400 and 5500, last Performa prior to the launch of the iMac 266MHz being the all black Directors Special.

What a speed bump the G3 machines were.

I have one of the old All In One Performa 5200's. Still works but the case is very fragile.
