I have the Mac mini that was recently discontinued in March; and a friend of mine has the first Mac mini released back in 2005. She has the maximum memory of 1GB, and a 160GB hard drive. Is it possible for her to upgrade her OS from Panther using my Mac mini install discs...legally? ;D

Thanks in advance for the replies.

It can not be done from your Intel Minis 10.5 DVD either Legally or at all.

The older Mini is a G4 which is a Power PC CPU. The DVD that comes with the Intel Mini is for the Intel Mini only and will not install on any other model and is just for the Intel CPU. All OSX DVD's shipped with a Mac are for that model with the same exact specs only.

Also it would not be legal.

So the answer is no.

Thanks dtravis7. The Power PC vs Intel didn't cross my mind. I kinda figured the answer would be "no"; but I tend to read where others do things they should't do sometimes. So I thought I'd ask. Yet in this case, it wouldn't have worked anyway.

Thanks again.

A retail version of the Leopard installatiion DVD will work fine, just go to your local Apple reseller and pick one up. should work fine on that system, I've got it running on an eMac 1.25 with a Gb of RAM, doesn't run badly at all.
