I just installed a bunch of fonts and upon installing them it changed the system font to something that is unreadable. Is there any way to change the default font back to the original system default?

Do you remember the names of the fonts you installed? Go to Applications and open the "Font Book" application. Find the fonts you installed. Now, one by one, validate them. (File -> Validate) If any should not validate, select to remove. (File -> Remove).

It's possible that one of the newly installed fonts will validate OK but somehow wound up as your system font. That means you will now have to remove each of the fonts you installed - again, one by one, until you find which one is the culprit.

Of course, if you had a Time Machine backup, all you would need to do is restore your system to a time before you installed the fonts.

Regards.
