problems with word 2004 mac

hi got some problems with black lines appearing in my documents in word.
i have gone thru the help menu to try and sort it out, with no luck.
they seem to appear randomly in my documents. one guy suggested it had something to do with some kind of submenu or similar.

the black lines can be seen on this screen shot:

this is annoying and will not look good when handing in an assignment at uni.

im not an experienced word user, so anyone got any tips on how to get rid of the black lines, please explain it properly

I've never seen this problem, but it looks like the lines show up every time you hit return, yes? I'd investigate the preferences, maybe even reset them to default (which probably involves deleting some settings file). You could also try a different word processor - I really like Bean.
