Hi everyone,

I need advices about getting more speed for work with music production.
Do I have to increase the Mac speed and/or RAM?
Does a fastest hardrive help? (Internal or external?). (Sometime ago I worked with a 10,000 rpm external HD).

I'll appreciate your help. Thanx in advance.

2.3 GHz dual mac G5
2 GB SDRAM
OSX 10.4.11
Pro Tools LE 7.4/MBox2 Pro
Digital Performer 6
500 GB Lacie external HD

I'm assuming you have a PowerMac G5.

You could always upgrade the RAM, it couldn't hurt. Depending on what exact model you have, you can upgrade as far as 8 or 16 GB of RAM.

A faster hard drive could also make a big difference. Even with a fast external drive you will always be restricted by the speed of the USB or FireWire interface, so it would be a better idea to get a faster internal drive.

Depends on what monies are available. Fastest upgrade would be to a multi core Mac Pro with maxed memory.

Upgrading memory would be the cheapest way to go.

If you really want fast then yeah do what harryb2448 suggested.

2 Gig of ram is pretty pathetic for an audio workstation, bump that up first! Other than that your machine is more than fine for Pro tools work.
