hi all,
i am hoping someone can help me out here. i need a new optical drive for my g5 2ghz. i have been told that i can install it myself should i find one. the existing one is the pioneer dvd-rw dvr-117d. i have looked online and not found one at all but found out that the 117d is not a pioneer product but an item number created by apple to identify something they have used. so, what to buy? i would rather avoid the hefty price apple will charge to fit something i can fit myself should i find one at a resonable price.
i look forward to any suggestions!

G'day and welcome to the forums!~

Course it is a Pioneer product. IMHO they are the best Superdrive for use in Mac Towers. Look at this link:-

PIONEER DVDRW DVR-117D ATA ATAPI-7 PATA BLACK BARE DRIVE BULK - PriceGuideNetwork.com

They are pretty easy to install. Here is a how to from Apple:-

The only difficult part is undoing the power cable. Struth they are tight. Suggest needle nose pliers, and grip the body of the molex plug and jiggle apart. Do not pull on the wires!
