I have an 80GB Mac Air running off OS X, but I restarted with about 450gb left and now my mac won't re-start. All I get is a grey screen, apple logo and a spinning wheel. I've managed to start my MAC from the install disc and open Disk utility. When I run verify I get the following error notes at the bottom.

Invalid sibling link
Volume check failed
Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed

Ideally I'd just like to access my HD to delete some files as I hope the problem would go away. I'm concerned that if I re-install the op system it will completely delete my HD and I'll lose my files. I haven't backed up for about a month. Any help would be great - thanks Kieron

Have you tried repairing permissions on your Mac through Disk Utility?

Also, if you need/want to reinstall OS X, you could do an Archive and Install. Read more about it here.

EDIT: Some more reading for you.

My first though: Time for an Archive and Install.
