Shuts Off When I Close It

Macbook 2.1 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo 250gb
It usually when I close it, it just goes into sleep mode or watever and then usually turns right back on when I open it but lately it has not been doing that. It will shut off and then I have to turn it on. Is there anything I can do?
