good headphones with remote

i want to get a set of good headphones that have a remote. i plan on doing a lot of bike riding, with my ipod touch (1st gen) in a pocket or backpack, so i need to be able to control it while it remains safely secured. i was looking at apples new in ear headphones with remote, but i heard not all the controls work with earlier ipods (they said volume control isnt compatible with 1st gen ipods). any users out there have headphones that were functional and made them happy? im not looking for the highest quality of sound, just functionality, thanks
