My New iBook Is Here

I'm posting this from my new iBook. I like it so far but there are a couple things that suck. Out of my 30 Gig Hard Drive I only have 18 Gigs left. And the track pad is hard to use. I have some things I need help with.

1. Can i get back any hard drive space by uninstalling software I won't be using?

2. Can the mail program work with gmail? If so, what do I need to fill in?

Also I can see how the bent monitor problem would happen but I dont see a way to prevent it.

1. Yes. Don't mess with anything in the System folder
2. Yes go to the Gmail help page they give you a step by step process for setting it up

You can set the trackpad to be more responsive in System Preferences

i've tinkered with the track pad settings but i think it's as good as its gonna get. anyone recommend an apple mouse? oh yeah one more question.

1. how do i get iCal out of my dock?

You can use any USB mouse that you want

1. Just drag it off and let go

it seems to be pinned to my dock. it keeps bouncing back to the dock. what am i doing wrong?

You'll need to quit out of it first. Command + Q.

Also make sure you are dragging it completely off the dock area

1. i have a home network for PCs set up. how do i join with my mac?

JVR, this is off topic, but you have without a doubt my favorite avatar i've ever seen on a web board. Magnum PI... that's freakin' hilarious. I should make mine Higgins.

I use "Sidetrack" to enhance my trackpad. It gives you scrolling and customizing options (like right-clicking) that Windows users have had for years. Apple likes to "think different", but that doesn't mean you have to compromise and be "less efficient". Making your trackpad more useful is much cheaper than buying a mouse.

Don't even THINK about buying one of those **** Apple one-button mice--a complete waste of money!

Apple does a lot of things right, but stubborness related to their mice is just plain lame. They have finally conceded defeat by adding scrolling functions to their new Powerbooks--only about 8 years too late!
