My IMac, OS10.4, is not recognising my old hard disks using this Nikkai adaptor A35FQ; driver from AX88772.pkg is installed and the disks are running, but no joy. Never posted before, so here's hoping someone has ideas?

it may be a power issue if the usb bus doesn't have enough power to run those drives on its own.

You may need to connect the adaptor to a powered usb hub

From what I can discover, that Nikkai has its own power supply. I had a similar experience using a generic IDE-USB adaptor from an older Hitachi external drive. The solution was simple, hopefully it will work for you.

Power on the drive(s) and then plug the USB connector to your Mac. For some reason, connecting everything before powering on did nothing except make the external drive spin.

I wonder if that driver you've mentioned is in fact necessary, OS X is normally very good at recognizing external devices without drivers. Try removing it from the Mac, and then repeat the connection of the external drive.

Thanks Hugh -I'll try this when I get the drives back (someone else is having a go for me) - will respond in a week or so.
