I have a 4th generation (mid-2008) model MacBook Pro. I've been looking at a Western Digital external hard drive and it's saying one of the input options is eSATA which is about 3Gb/s in comparison to USB 2.0 at 480 Mb/s.

What I was curious about is if there was a way to get either an adapter or just a normal way to connect an eSATA input into this MacBook Pro. I have the mid-end MBP of the mid-2008 (15 inch screen, 2.5Ghz processor) model.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

An adapter is inexpensive enough: Link but I'm not sure that's going to result in eSATA speeds. You need to do some research on that.

Regards.

Thank you, although that's not quite what I was looking for. What I need is possibly something that will go from eSATA into a either USB or Firewire. I highly doubt it for Firewire or USB, because their speeds aren't up to 500 Mb/s.

I want to directly connect the External HD to my MBP to get the full transfer speed of eSATA. It's fine if I can't, but this isn't something I've never dealt with before.

You'll need an express 34 card which will give you esata port with full 3gbps speed on your macbook pro.
