Doesn't look so hot with a 3D dock.

To me its about being organized.

Feel free to post some pictures of your dock using the dock dividers to demonstrate how yours looks.

Sorry, I edited the post before your replied.

But it doesn't look like you need any dividers your docks so small!

Heres another way how to do it using the terminal

defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-apps -array-add '{tile-data={}; tile-type="spacer-tile";}'

Once you have ran that you either need to log off and back on or using a command to relaunch the dock

killall Dock

That will insert a empty space which you can drag to position where you want.

To remove simply drag it off the dock like any other icon.

If you want to insert a space on the right side where you have the standard documents and download folders you can do so using the command

defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-others -array-add '{tile-data={}; tile-type="spacer-tile";}'
