Layer windows or open applications

I did a search and didn't get much.
I was wondering if you can have several applications open one under the other and when you close the top one the next application is on the desktop? Is this possible like it is on a PC? If so how do you get the Mac to do it. whenever I close a window the desktop shows even though I have other applications open.

Seriously suggest you find out a bit more about your Mac and it's Operating System. It is not like Windows.
