I need to upgrade the optical drive on my eMac. it only has a CD drive at the moment, anyone know where i can find a DVD drive or a DVD Superdrive? and what i should be looking for as far as being Mac or PC compatible?

Another vote for the Pioneer 116D DL superdrive. Not the easiest job in the world install in an eMac as they take some cracking. Maybe you can consider the drive connected externally via Firewire?

eMacs being PPC (PowerPC) models cannot boot from an external USB optical drive.

I too have an eMac with just a CD-RW, and for the replacement difficulty factor mentioned, decided on external drives. I use a Pioneer 112D and a 115D, both via firewire, both daisy chained. I suggest you go external unless very limited space is a factor.

If you do decide to go with the internal option, and need a technical manual, send me a PM.
