Hi all,

So I've been having this problem for a little while now, but I guess I've been neglecting it. Every now and then, there will be lines running across my display, either through the entire display, or just through certain application windows. At the moment, it's happening only on the desktop. I find this annoying and wonder what the problem is. I'm almost certain it was a problem before the Safari 4 beta, which has seemingly caused a number of other issues with my computer. I've attached a screenshot to better illustrate the issue. Thanks for any suggestions.

Best regards,
Taylor

weird, normally I'd see something like that and think monitor issue or video card issue, but you say it is ONLY there on the background, and doesn't appear on apps? (granted it might be a bit hard to see due to the fact that it almost looks like some sort of weird pixel shift, or drawing problem)

Yea no, at that point it was only on my desktop and covered up by any applications windows over it. Conversely, other times it will only be across the span of one particular application. I'm almost 100% it's not the display for this reason.

Just to give another example where it is only in an application window:

Just out of curiosity, have you tried booting to the install dvd (I assume tiger as your screen looks really different then mine) - not doing the install or anything, but just booting into it and see if the line is still there? if it is, then good chance its hardware, if its not, then could be something got corrupted

Interesting that it can be captured in a screen shot, so it's not just a display hardware issue. It's actually in the way the OS renders the picture. Very odd.

Can you share what programs start up with your Mac (basically take a screen shot of the list of login items in System Preferences => Accounts => Username => Login Items).

I see you're running Tiger. Any chance you're running Application Enhancer or any Haxies or Shapeshifter?

I am not running either of those programs. Here's a screenshot of my login items.
