Looking to buy an External HD to use Time Machine for my MBP. Is there ANY specifications that the HD must be, or can I literally go into Wal Mart and buy ANY HD and have it work perfectly?

What do you guys recommend?

Any external drive will be fine. Make sure it is big enough. Wally World has a sweet deal on a 250GB Free Agent right now. It even matches my Mac's.

As recommended, Wal-Mart (Wally World :) ) has some very good deals on external hard drives. Probably the best prices around locally other than purchasing from on line.

Something else you might consider if you intend to use Time Machine: A scheduler program. This one is free and works well. Link

Regards.
