Hi all,

My mac has ilife 08 on it (came with it) and I'm contemplating upgrading to ilife 09 (to get back some of the features that apparently were taken away in imovie from the '06 to '08 version).

My question is - as I'm still a fairly new mac user - do I need to do anything special? Do I need to remove all of the existing ilife applications, or will it install over the existing? I've never upgraded a mac program before so I'm not sure...

Any info would be great.

It will upgrade over the existing, it's a very straightforward installation. Also, consider that iMovie HD (the '06 version) is made available to iLife '08 users free of charge, before you make a decision.

It was but the download was removed from Apple's website. I tried to look for it but could not find it anywhere (aside from some questionable places like RapidShare).

See here for more info.

Yeah, I had read that '06 download was no longer available as of jan something of this year, which is why I was considering getting '09, since it seems imovie will do enough that I won't need to get Final Cut for now and will relieve me from using another one of my windows based programs =)

When I installed upgrades they didn't go over top of older versions, they went next to. Now I have a folder called previous versions, where iMovie HD is located. I go to it when I want to do time lapse videos. I have found or really looked for that in '09.
