I am about to buy a new Macbook (Late 2008) for $750. It is still under apple warranty and was wondering do I need to get the warranty transferred to my name? Or can I just leave it as is? I'm kind of new to apple and if I'm liking the Macbook, I might switch from PC to Mac.

Yes, you should transfer the warranty to your name. And you should also consider buying Apple care to extend that warranty another two years.

Regards.

Does adding apple care add on to your existing warranty? like say I had 3 more months left and purchased apple care, that means I will have 2 years and 3 months of warranty from apple right?

Get the machine and transfer it to your name and prior to the 12 month warranty period expiring take out Applecare which extends the original 12 month warranty to three years, so you will have two years from the date of the original twelve month expiring.
