Hi guys,

I am new here and I wanted to share with you a problem that I am facing. I am working in a lab and our Flow Cytometer is connected to a Mac G3. The Operating System of this Mac is OS 9.2. I searched in the Market in order to find a Printer, but I couldn't find anything that's suitable for OS 9.2. Everything I found was working with OS-X and later versions. I took the change and I purchased an HP Deskjet 6940 wich was the only one working with G3 according the package. Till now I haven't manage to install the printer on the Mac. Is there a software that I can download in order to solve this problem?

Thanks,
Jorge :)

no, i cannot. I tried by installing possible suitable printer softwares which I downloaded from the official HP web site, but it didn't work. I also e-mailed them my problem, but they didn't reply at all.

Unfortunately, just due to shear age, most modern peripheral devices simply won't have OS 9 support. The last release for OS 9 was over 8 years ago. If you are not able to upgrade this machine to OS X, you'd be better off looking for an older model printer - particularly a laser printer since they can usually use more generic drivers (most HP lasers, especially those that use a Parallel/Centronics interface, will work fine with a LaserJet 4/4 Plus driver).

Nice way to say "in the last century". :p

Don't mean to make light of your problem jorge. Just struck me funny at the moment.

If I upgrade the operating System to OS-X do you think that I have problems with the speed of my Mac since it is a G3?

You'll likely have to add memory and possibly a larger hard drive. Unfortunately between that and the cost of the OS itself, you'll probably have reached the point of diminishing returns.

A G4 would be much more suitable. Best of them is the last model FW800 1.25/1.42DP.

A program such as FloJo is compatible with G3, G4 and G5 PowerPC's.

Download FlowJo for Macintosh
