Watch folders in iPhoto

Macbook Pro (Early 2008) 2.5Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM, NVidia 8600 GT 512 MB Video RAM, 250 GB HDD
I'm using iPhoto 09. I've told iPhoto not to copy my photos so it only tracks changes in its own folder structure. I coped a couple of new photos into an existing folder. Is there a way to get iPhoto to monitor the directory? I've gotten used to Picasa doing this.
