That's true, but what if I get the HDD and then it dies, I lose all my backups...? And then if I don't have time to get a new one, I have the risk of my other drive dying also. What should I do for that scenario?

The event of two hard drives failing both at the same time is highly unlikely.

If your computer hard drive fails you have your external back up available. If your external hard drive fails then you have your computer hard drive available.

What's the difference between an internal and an external? Internal drives are not more prone to failure because they are internal drives.

CDs can get ruined as well. No method of backup is perfect. If you are really paranoid about losing some stuff, why not think about using something like Dropbox to back up your really important stuff online.

If both of your drives die, you're up a creek without a paddle.
