These are really simple questions and I've tried fiddling w/it and can't figure some of them out. Sorry, total N00b questions here haha.

1: What exactly IS FRONT ROW?
2: What is PREVIEW and what does it do?
3: What is SPACES and tips and tricks on how to use it, what to put on SPACES, etc.
4: Same question for EXPOSE
5: How do you use the Apple Remote?
6: Is TEXT EDIT Mac's version of "Notepad?"
7: Is it worth setting up a .Mac for emails? I have hotmail right now and w/in the past week, I've been able to go to my emails, but unfortunately I can't OPEN my emails!!! It is soooo aggravating (I'm able to open them from other computers). Anyone know why that would be...I really don't wanna set up a new email address thru google, yahoo, or heaven forbid, aol.

Thanks in advance!!

Hi,

1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Front_Row_(software)

2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preview_(software)

3. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spaces_(software)

4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exposé_(Mac_OS_X)

5. I've never used it

6. We can say that

7. If you don't like hotmail there are other free mails like google so you don't need to have .mac

cheers,
Tex

Tex handled the first four questions very well. As for the others:

5) Make sure you're pointing it at the front of the Mac as that's where the IR receiver is located. If it's still not working, then you either need to swap the battery or the remote is DOA.

6) It's more like Wordpad as it's more functional than Notepad

7) You should be able to access Hotmail from a web browser just fine. If you're trying to set it up with the built in Mail application, then it won't work unless you have the paid version of Hotmail. So use Safari to access Hotmail, or download another browser like Firefox or Opera if you prefer.

If your remote doesn't work, you can check your settings under System Preferences/Security, there is a checkbox at the bottom saying "Disable remote control"

and I found you don't actually need to be pointing it straight at the IR at the front of the computer, it's actually pretty strong if your battery isn't dead

I seem to be able to use remote without pointing it directly at my Mac. I pointed it directly at me and it still worked. To be fair, I am sitting 30cm from my laptop.

ok but why are you talking about Yahoo ?

Uhhh. Just to highlight that Yahoo! is not one of those other free emails (thru POP at least). You suggested other free emails, and jakwabbitt had mentioned Yahoo! in his list of alternatives. I thought I'd ensure he didn't set that up only to find that it didn't work either.

You can get it to work in Mail if you have an old Hotmail-account and install HTTP-mail.
