Hi all,

I have a 1GHz G4 iBook with 512 RAM and have been thinking of getting rid of the 256 stick I put in when I bought it and upgrading to a 512 stick to give 768 in total.

While looking at the Crucial web site I noticed that the price of PC2100 laptop RAM is morew than the PC2700 stuff for Powerbooks. Weird! The PC2700 512 stick was approx £60 and the PC2100 stuff was over £80.

So, my question is this:

Can I use a stick of PC2700 laptop RAM in my iBook which is designed for PC2100?

I know in my PC this works fine, but not sure about laptops.....

Any ideas?

As long as the pinouts are the same. Then it should be no problem.

I thought that myself. I'm pretty sure that they are as all laptop's use 144 pin RAM I believe. I know that the stick of RAM P put in the iBook worked in my P4 laptop too.

But the data rate is different(DDR333 power book DDR266 ibook), surely that would cause problems on the ibook.

I use PC3200 RAM working at PC2700 in my PC and there's no problems there.

Just did a quick web search on the subject and found lots of links of people that have used pc2700 ram in ibooks and had no problems so it sounds good. Interesting, I'll have to remember this for future reference. Good luck with the install !!

Cheers for the replies guys. Looks like I'll be able to save £25 then! I must remember not to tell a friend who just paid more!
