I decide to erase my hard drive after backing up the data and reinstall Leopard on my black MacBook. I have both Tiger and Leopard disks. When I booted from the install disk it tells me that it cannot install on this computer. What have I done wrong and how can I correct it?

Sounds like you are trying to install Leo from a system restore disc which will work only with the model machine it was released with. Any further info on the disc?
