I'm not really sure where to start, but I'm looking for a digital camcorder to record concerts in small venues. So getting good sound and then editing it in Final Cut is important.

My price range is only in the $200 range so any recommendations would be great.

For a new camera you'll need $250 and will only be able to get a miniDV camera with firewire. Consider a Sony. Do not buy a Samsung as a few people have had issues with those.

I'm not sure what result you'll get from the cameras mics. If you are recording your friends bands, then it would be best to get the sound guy to make a digital recording.

Definitely don't rely on your camera's mic to get worthwhile sound at a concert. Talk to the sound guy and try to get a soundboard recording if you want to do the band justice.

Third vote for not relying on a camcorder to record sound at a band's show.

Definitely talk to the sound guy for an audio recording.

You can get a decent mic from guitar center or ebay and use a cord to plug into your camcorder. Depending on where you are recording from, you can put the mic by the sound guy/gal's monitor or elsewhere where the sound is good. Problem is you can't be roaming around taking videos.
