Right-side vs. Left-side USB ports

Your Mac's Specs
13" MBP - 2.7 Ghz, Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM.
I've read differing opinions on having all your ports on the left-side vs. all the ports on the right-side. Which side works better? One side is more prone to failure/damage?

What about the hard drive I currently have in my 13" MB? Will it fit in a 15" MBP?

Yes, both the 13" and 15" Macbooks use the same hard drive type.
