I finally want to get a dock for my 3G. I could just grind out the sides of my original iPhone dock, but would prefer something less ugly if it's cheap. (Plus I don't know if it'll charge it as I've heard there are compatibility issues).

On Apple they are selling a simple dock for $50, the same price as a universal dock WITH apple remote, ridiculous. I saw on Ebay that there are docks selling for as little as $8, but I'm concerned about how good they really are. Anyone have one of these that can comment on how good they are or know of a retailer or maker that makes a decent cheap 3G dock? If I could get a black one, that would be awesome.

Thanks.

EDIT: apparently I was looking at something else and the dock is $29, but $8 shipped is still much better.

Don't have one of the eBay ones, but I did just order this - Griffin Simplifi

I was looking for a small usb hub/card reader combo, and couldn't pass this up.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it's kind of the opposite direction I want to go in terms of price.

I have not had good luck with eBay docks -- they seem to always not fit well and that makes charging/sync'g hit or miss. Nothing worse than thinking your iPhone is charging when it's not (and of course you find out after you leave home and it dies).

Though I haven't personally tried one, this stand looks very sturdy and you use the cable that came with the iPhone: Ped3.

Still, at $40 it's probably more than you want to spend. I'd caution against the cheap stuff, however; I've got a desk drawer with 3 or 4 cheapy eBay iPod docks that aren't worth the $4 spent on them.

Well, I guess I'll either have to track down a good file or rotary tool to take to my old iPhone dock or just pay the $30 for a 3G one.

I'm still annoyed they would offer it with the original iPhone and not the 3G. I honestly didn't know it wasn't included when I bought my 3G. Such a small, cheap thing that they just couldn't bother to include. Oh, but thanks for the little SIM card tool! I never can find a paper clip EVERYWHERE to use.

If they're going to make me pay, they could at the very least offer it up in black so the dumb thing would match!!

I got the 3g dock at Christmas when it was 20.00.
