iPhone synced on PC without Outlook

My iPhone is synced to a PC without Outllook and I lost all my contacts. When synced, where are the contacts stored so I can retrieve them? How do I retrieve them?

Thanks for your wisdom.

I don't know the answer to your specific question but if you have previously had a successful sync you should look into resorting to an earlier back up.
