I have been offered a sealed 15" MBP, 2.4ghz version for $1750, no tax, no shipping. Is this a good deal? With my education discount, it would be $2030 after tax. So I'm saving $280. Is that a decent deal or have you seen better?

It's a good price if the machine is legitimate. Buyer beware! ;D

Regards.

I'm with chscag. I'd have to know where you're purchasing it from to answer that question.

Is that a Unibody MacBook Pro, or early 2008 model? If the latter, then no, it's not a great deal. If the former, you're only about $100 off MSRP with corporate/educational discount. So, it's OK, but no steal.

A power seller on ebay with thousands of sales and better than a 95% rating, it's probably ok. Only if the item is listed on ebay and sold through ebay. Not apart from ebay.

Just had a similar offer made to me. A supposed ebay power seller, but the listing for the machine was not on ebay (was found on craigslist) and the seller refused to list it on ebay (for the protection of both of us). I passed on it.

And as cwa stated - if it is the new unibody model, not the previous model. Personally wouldn't pay more than 70 cents on the dollar for the previous model.

I ended up finding a sealed one on eBay for $1715. The refurb from Apple still came out to $100 more than that.
