Hello-

Is it possible to install faster RAM in a computer? ie If a Mac currently has:
2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, can it be upgraded to
2GB 1066 MHz DDR3 SDRAM? Or something in between?

((It's a Macbook Pro 15.X" from June 2006))

Thanks a lot!

No. DDR3 will not fit in your machine. DDR2 And DDR3 have different pin counts and are not interchangeable.

The best you can do with that particular MBP is install 4 GB to maintain dual channel mode, however the machine can only use 3GB of it.

No, and in fact, even installing 800 MHz DDR2 instead of 667 MHz DDR2 won't help, since the computer is only able to use up to 667 MHz DDR2 anyway. If you get DDR2-800, it'll just downclock to DDR2-667.

Thanks for your answer.

You're saying that I could install 4GB. Does that apply even to a Mac that says that max memory is 2GB?

Thanks a lot.

Sorry, if you have the 2.16 Core Duo, you are maxed out at 2GB.
The 2.16 Core 2 Duo maxes out at 3GB usable, but you can put two 2GB sticks in it to maintain dual channel mode.
