Mail application crashes as soon as I open it

Every time I open Mail it crashes as soon as the it loads up. I have tried opening it several times, and I have restarted the computer twice as well. I know its probably not related, but it seems like ever since I installed the new Safari yesterday, Mail has ceased to function. Any suggestions?

Uninstall Safari 4 and see if your mail program returns to normal. (Uninstalling will return Safari to its previous version.)

I did that and it worked, but is there a way to fix it so I can use safari and Mail? I know not everyone is having this problem.
