Does Target Disk Mode no longer work?

I was wondering if anyone else was having an issue with getting their laptop into target disk mode? My friend just bought a new laptop and hitting T when starting the machine up does not do anything but load OS X normally.

Any suggestions on how else i can transfer information quickly if target disk mode doesn't work anymore?

Are you holding down the T key as the system starts up or hitting as you stated?

The computer is restarted then as the screen goes black he has been hitting the "T" key.

Hopefully someone will come along a correct me if I am wrong. But I believe you are to hold down the T key and then turn on the system. The you let go when you see the firewire icon on the screen. I don't know if this works with USB.

USB seems to be very "picky" about what it will work and not work with.

What Mac is this? The latest Macbooks no longer have a Firewire port so I doubt they support Firewire target disk mode.

Yes - you have to connect the two computers with firewire and hold "T" when booting up.
