instaling an exec file

my friend gave me a dvd with some software on it, when I opened it up
all it shows is an exec file.
If I double click on it, it asks what programme it wants to open in.
Am I doing something wrong.

Hi,
an .exe file is a Windows binary that you cannot open in OSX. You can either
- install Windows in Bootcamp
- install Windows in VM Fusion or Parallels (virtualization)

yeah... A Mac doesn't write .exe file. If the software your friend gave you is window version, it usually come with a .exe file. The chance is you can't even install or use it on Mac.
