I currently have the late 2006 black MB with a 2ghz processor. I've noticed it being pretty slow lately, and it seems to have coincided with me using Photoshop daily and working with high volumes of photos (I'm a photojournalism student and I photograph for a newspaper).

I have been thinking about getting a Macbook Pro or a new Macbook. Will 2.4ghz. It will also have 4GB RAM as opposed to my current 2. Will this result in a noticeably faster machine?

Also, in regards to the screen quality, will the Pro be much better for photo editing?

The extra RAM will definitely help. If you have a lot of photos open and are using Photoshop, the extra memory will be a huge asset.

I can't comment much on the screen, being an MB owner myself. The extra screen real estate will be a plus though.

I think the screens are nicer on the new Alu generation but that's just my personal opinion. I do a lot of digital media work and some people I know just don't like the glossy screens. I'm not too bothered as I have a 22" matte screen I use if I need to.

I have been a heavy Photoshop user and have found that it's memory that is your best friend. I had a PowerBook at home that failed and I ended up replacing with a MacBook and it's been just fine. It's higher end applications like video that really requires the high-end computers. You should be just fine.
