New software installation on my HD

Hi ppl i m new to macs and never had any issues until recently when i ve tried to download some software demos and install them.
The installation is sucessfully complete but then when i try and find the folder on my HD it doesnt come up for some reason?

Can anyone HELP PLZ...

do they download as dmg files?

If so you have to mount the virtual disk and manually drag the application into your apps folder
