HI guys, I'm new here, but old to Macs.

I have a Quicksilver and I think my CD/DVD drive is going out. Are they hard to replace? Also, what should I replace it with?

I need to be able to read and write CDs and DVDs. Thanks.

The pioneer drives are good and work straight out of the box, they write to all media (including double layer) and are inexpensive

I swapped mine out with a Pioneer 110, but the 115 and 116 drives are a good option

It is pretty easy all you need is a Phillips head driver. The difficult part is undoing the molex power leads as they are very tight. needle nose pliers, grasp the plastic body of the plug, not the wires, and jiggle.

Here is a how-to from OWC and yep Pioneer DL superdives are the go, come with IDE plug and plahy and recognised as native by the Quicksilver.
