Hello...I was just trying to do a software up date on my macbook, and instead of taking the usual amount of time, it just sat there...and sat there...for what seemed an eternity, without making any progress. Is there something I could be doing to make my updates go quicker?

always helps to turn off anything that could significantly eat up network bandwidth, like some sort of downloading, youtube and stuff like that ... probably best to keep a minimum of apps running overall

Run from mains power only.
Disconnect all peripherals, disable antivirus, where installed, and close all open applications.
