I just got my macbook pro on Friday, I noticed there was a dead pixel right in the middle of the screen, very very annoying.

Will they exchange it since its only been 3 days?

There is a 10 day policy right?

You should definitely at least check. If you're near an Apple store, go in and try to explain that you want a new one. Otherwise, give them a call and be polite but persistent.

One dead pixel might not normally be enough to warrant a return, but if it's right in the middle of the screen, I'd hope they'd make an exception.

It appears that if you just bought it, you can probably return it (Apple - Support - Discussions).

If you have had it for a while, there is a minimum number of dead pixels required for repair (don't remember how many it is).

I think that apple policy says

that the can replace the laptop only if there is at least 3 dead pixel.
Still I'm not sure .

Either way it's worth a shot. nfrederick had better go to an Apple store soon, before too much time passes. It'll be easier to get it replaced if you move quickly. If you wait two or three weeks before doing anything, chances are you'll be stuck with whatever you have.

Well I went to the Apple store, manager said we can go ahead and switch it out, verified the dead pixel and that was that.

They were out of the 2.53ghz models and will not be getting any in for up to 2 weeks he said.

He made an incident or whatever they called it and wrote his info on his card and said he would call me whenever they got it in for me.

Cool guy I was expecting to get shot down and just have to deal with it.

Very very professional in the Oklahoma City Apple store, A+++!!

Just for the fun of it - and since you're going to get a new machine anyway - why don't don't you try this screen fix application? It won't harm the screen or make it worse in any way. And, it may even work. :)

JScreenFix - Fix stuck pixels

Regards.

If I read correctly that's only for stuck pixels and probably would not work for dead pixels.

But what the heck, I sure will give it a shot.

***update***

I that on for about an hour with no luck.

Well 2 weeks turned into a day, the manager called me and let me know he had one in.

Went and picked it up and everything is flawless!

Glad to hear you had a good experience. I picked mine up on the 13th (day before V-Day) and it's been flawless too.

However, it received it's first 'beauty mark' (ie. scratch) last Sunday....new Brenthaven bag, defective zipper....grrr...
