ok so i finally got a HD to back up my machine

my macbook HD is 250gb

I bought a 1 TB drive and partitioned it in 4 sections
250gb for time machine
250gb for music
100gb for pictures
and 330 for a temp holding for my self till i sort thru new stuff

oh and they are all partitioned in MS-dos so i can see them on my work pc XP
except the time machine partition

i do not understand Time Machine
when it went to back up i think it was backing up my entire external partition i do not want time machine to do this

i only want it to back up my macbook HD

please help me accomplish this task
before i throw my macbook out the window

this is supposed to be easy but it is not and the instructions on how to exclude items does not allow me to exclude the different partitions

In system preferences go to the Time Machine setting under the system heading. Once in there you will see an options button and once you click you will have the option to add locations NOT to backup. Add your selections there and you should be set.

Also, if you throw your MB out the window be sure to throw it my way! LOL :D

The Apple Support recommended size for a Time Machine Hard Drive is twice the size of your Mac's HD. Too small and it's going to be deleting fairly recent backups to make room.
