After having a HD crash I have decided to do the automatic back-up route with a ex.HD. Now the question becomes which automatic back-up program.

In doing a quick search I found over 33 different programs. What are some recommendations and experiences that you have had with the different programs? Which ones should a person stay away from?
I know personnal preferences and all but that will help?

I am running 10.4.11 --- 10.5 is not an option so Time Machine is out of the question.
Thanks

I use SuperDuper and have been very pleased with it. Just hook up an external drive and have SuperDuper do a full backup and make it bootable. If you lose your internal drive, you can boot from the SuperDuper external.

Another option is to use Carbon Copy Cloner. Basically it does the same thing as SuperDuper but is donation ware.

Regards.

Carbon Copy Cloner is very good, I have used it. What I found discouraging is that when Leopard was released, the author of SuperDuper spent a lot of time verifying that everything worked properly with SuperDuper - he found that it didn't. In fact, there were quite a few little things that didn't translate over well - nothing that was overly noticeable, but he spent a lot of time making sure that it produced an absolute clone.

During that time, Carbon Copy Cloner remained un-updated, and as a result, I don't have as much faith in it.
