I have a Panasonic PVDV-953 miniDV camera connected via firewire to my Mac Pro with OS X (10.5.6). I can use it for iChat with no problem. There is even an option in iChat preferences to select "PVDV-953 Built-in" as the microphone.
My problem is there is no such option in Settings > Sound > Input. My only options are Line In and Digital In. So if I open Photo Booth, I get video but no sound. I am also using Jing (jingproject.com) to do screen captures, and I cannot get any sound with those either.
The camera is not turning itself off, so I know that is not the problem. I tried the "genius" desk at the apple store but they were no help - and just suggested a USB mic or webcam with mic. I'd rather not spend $40 on a mic or webcam when I already have a camera and microphone. Any ideas? Thanks!
