Hello.
I had an external h.d. with all of my iTunes music stored on it. I dropped the h.d. and was not able to access the music. Luckily I was able to have all of the music retrieved from the external h.d. and put onto a new external.
During the period when I was without an external h.d. I ripped some music into iTunes.
Today I got my new external back with 40gb of music stored on it. I moved all of the music that was ripped after I dropped the hard drive from iTunes music folder to my external h.d.
Then I went into preferences and changed the location to my external h.d. and then I "consolidated."
I have no problem playing the songs that were ripped while my external was being worked on, but none of the music that was retrieved from the external and are all located on the new external.
I hope that makes sense. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
